"Decorating Nature"

In honor of Earth Day, our school hosted artist Norm Magnusson to conduct a workshop with students.

Inspired by Norm's series "Decorating Nature," students roamed the campus and created their own original artwork, painting trees, leaves, rocks and sticks and then returning the objects to be photographed. Like nature itself, these works are delicate and ephemeral which makes the photo-journalism aspect vitally important.

I loved this whole endeavor, especially the subtle way it emphasized the appreciation of beauty and the importance of conservation. I took the picture above of one of my favorite paintings from the morning.
